Celebrating Slovenia

Happy National Day, Slovenia! A stunning country with the word love hidden in its name, Slovenia has gifted Eurovision fans with memorable and heartfelt performances over the years. Let’s take a look back at Slovenia’s Eurovision journey.

Debut

Slovenia made its Eurovision debut in 1993 with the group 1x Band and their song “Tih deževen dan” (=Quiet Rainy Day). Since then, the country has participated regularly, only missing the contest twice—in 1994 and 2000—due to the relegation system after low average scores.

Best Results

Slovenia’s best result to date is 7th place, achieved twice:

  • In 1995 with “Prisluhni mi” performed by Darja Švajger, and
  • In 2001 with the upbeat Energy by Nuša Derenda.

Since then, Slovenia has struggled to break into the top 10. Their best post-2001 results were 13th place finishes in 2002 and again in 2011.

Memorable Moments

While Slovenia has yet to win the contest, it has delivered some truly unique and emotional performances.

In 2025, the country was represented by Klemen with his powerful ballad “How Much Time Do We Have Left,” inspired by his wife’s health battle. The performance was deeply moving—featuring Klemen singing upside down and bringing his wife on stage. Despite not qualifying for the final, it left an emotional impression on many viewers.

Other standout moments include:

  • Raiven’s “Veronika” (2024), a bold and artistic performance that pushed creative boundaries, and
  • Joker Out’s “Carpe Diem” (2023), a catchy indie anthem that became a fan favorite.

Slovenia may not (yet) have a Eurovision trophy, but it continues to bring originality, passion, and authenticity to the stage. Here’s to many more unforgettable moments in the years to come.
