Celebrating Austria

Happy Austrian National Day! Today, we’re celebrating Austria’s vibrant Eurovision journey!

Austria made its Eurovision debut in 1957, with Bob Martin and his song “Wohin, Kleines Pony  (“Where, Little Pony?”). Sadly, the song didn’t gallop far, finishing last—but hey, every Eurovision legend has to start somewhere!

Fast forward to 1966, when Austria hit the jackpot with their first-ever win, thanks to the iconic Udo Jürgens and his heartfelt ballad Merci, Chérie (“Thank You, Darling”). Fun fact: Udo had represented Austria three times before winning, proving that the third time’s truly the charm!

Austria holds the record for the longest gap between consecutive wins. After 48 years, they achieved their second victory in 2014 with Conchita Wurst’s unforgettable “Rise Like a Phoenix. Conchita didn’t just win hearts; she redefined the contest with her message of strength and individuality. Truly a legendary moment in Eurovision history!

Their second best result of the 21st century came in 2018 with Cesár and the song Nobody but you, achieving the 3rd place.

Austria has confirmed participation for Basel 2025. We can’t wait to see what surprises they bring next!

Here’s to Austria’s Eurovision journey—full of highs, lows, and unforgettable moments. Prost!
