Celebrating Poland

Happy Polish Independence Day! Today we are shining a spotlight on Poland and all the beautiful Eurovision moments they have gifted us over the years. From operatic crescendos to daring dance moves, Poland has brought a special touch to the contest. So get ready to take a ride through Poland’s Eurovision history!

Poland made a very successful debut in the contest in 1994, when Edyta Górniak took the 2nd place with the stunning ballad ‘To Nie Ja!’ (=‘It wasn’t me!’). This is still the county’s best and only top 5 result.

Since then their best results were in 2003, finishing 7th with Ich Troje’s ‘Keine Grenzen – Żadnych granic’ and in 2016, finishing 8th with Michal Szpak’s ‘Color of Your Life’. This was the most suspenseful moment in Polish Eurovision history since the song only received 7 points from the jury but sky-rocketed from zero to hero on the scoreboard with the public’s 229 points! In the most recent years they achieved a respectable 12th place in 2022 with Ochman and his operatic vocals in the song ‘River’.

But not all years saw Poland hitting the ESC stage. In 2012 and 2013, Poland took a Eurovision break, largely because they were a bit busy hosting another European show- the UEFA Euros (Taking a break for football? Not very Eurovision-like).

Although they don’t hold a Eurovision victory (yet), Poland has delivered lots of memorable performances that will spin forever at the Euroclubs, such as ‘We Are Slavic’ (2014) and ‘Solo’ (2023). And let’s not forget to mention that they also hold back-to-back victories at Junior Eurovision in 2018 and 2019.

Poland for Basel 2025

A few days ago the Polish broadcaster TVP has confirmed participation for next year’s contest in Switzerland. The entry will be selected from a national final which will take place on the 14th of February (now you know what you will be doing that day!). The song submission deadline is on 04/12/2024 and the applicant must be a Polish citizen.

We can’t wait to see what Poland brings to the stage next year. A power ballad? A dance banger? Something that’ll make everyone in the arena chant “Polska!”? Whatever it is, we’re here for it. Are you?
