Good evening! We are already at the Part 6 of our ‘Meet the artists’ posts-meaning that we are getting closer and closer to the contest! Today we will talk about Croatia, San Marino and Poland. Stay updated by reading our post 🙂
Baby Lasagna for Croatia
Last Sunday Croatia has chosen their representative for Malmo. Baby Lasagna won the Croatian national final of Dora and will represent his country with the song ‘Rim Tim Tagi Dim’. There were 24 participating songs in total, with only 16 qualifying to the final. The winner was chosen from an equal vote of public and jury, which consisted on Croatian jury (25%) and international jury (25%). Baby Lasagna won with 321 total points, followed by Vinko with 82 points and last year’s representatives Let 3 with 79 points.
Baby Lasagna is the stage name of Marko Purišić, a 28-year-old Croatian singer and songwriter. He became famous as the guitarist of the Croatian rock band Manntra from 2011 to 2022 (with a break between 2016-2018). He is not a stranger to Dora as he participated with Manntra in 2019, finishing 4th. Last year he decided to pursue a solo career and came up with his stage name. The song ‘Rim Tim Tagi Dim’ was released on 12th of January as part of his debut solo album Demons and Mosquitoes. It is a humorous song about a young rural man who decided to leave his village for a better life in a foreign country, who is both excited for a new beginning but anxious and sad for the leaving his country.
He will perform in the first half of Semi-final 1. Good luck Baby Lasagna!
Megara for San Marino
Una Voce per San Marino (UVPSM) final happened on Saturday 24th of February, where San Marino showed their voice and chose their representative for Malmo. 17 acts performed on the final night with the winner chosen solely by jury. Megara impressed the jury and won the final with their song ‘11:11’.
Megara are a Spanish alternative metal band from Madrid. They were formed in 2015, releasing their first EP ‘Muerase Que Puede’ on the same year. In 2016 they released their first album ‘Siete’. Now they count 3 albums in total. They became famous in Eurovision world in 2023 after participating in the Spanish national selection Benidorm with their song ‘Arcadia’, finishing 4th. They also tried to participate at this year’s Benidorm fest with their song ‘11:11’, but were not selected by the broadcaster. Then they applied to UVPSN, making some changes to the song to include verses in Italian, where they won the final and earned their ticket to Malmo.
Their song 11:11 is a mix of Spanish, English and Italian lyrics. They will perform at the second part of the second semi-final. No UVPSM act has qualified for the grand final yet, so Megara are hoping to be the first one to do that. We wish them luck!
Luna for Poland
Luna will wave the Polish flag in Malmo with her song ‘The Tower’. The polish broadcaster TVP internally selected their representative, having a 5-member competition committee who voted songs from 1 to 10. Luna is a 25-year-old vocalist and songwriter from Warsaw. She started her musical career in 2018, when she released her first single ‘On the hills of anxiety’, which became a ratio hit. She went to release her first EP in 2021 and her debut album ‘Nocne zmory’ was released in 2022, which gained lots of success in Poland. Her song ‘The Tower’ is about the journey of strength and self-realization in moments of darkness and negativity, with the tower representing the negativity. It was released on 23rd of January by Universal Music Polska and officially premiered at the Spatif nightclub in Warsaw.
Luna will perform in the first semi-final. Good luck Poland!
