new artists for malmo-part 9!

And here it is, the last artists for 2024! The class of 2024 has been completed, with all the artists and songs revealed. It is a bit emotional that this exciting part of national selections and artist announcements is over, however it is now that the fun begins. The final countdown to Eurovision Song Contest is approaching, Eurovision Party season is almost here and the official Eurovision Spotify playlist is out!

Hera Björk for Iceland

Hera Björk has issued her Malmo ticket by winning the final of Icelandic national selection Söngvakeppnin with her song ‘Scared of Heights’. Söngvakeppnin consisted of 2 semi-finals and 1 final with 10 artists participating in the show and only two qualifying to the final. The semi-final voting was decided purely by televote, but on the final day it was decided by 50% televote and 50% jury. ‘Scared of Heights’ gained the highest televote points and was placed on top. It was released on 28th of January and is a pop song about overcoming fear and finding strength.

Hera Björk is not a stranger to the contest; she represented Iceland in 2010 with the song ‘Je ne sais quoi’, finishing 19th. She was also a backing singer for Icelandic entries 3 times; in 2008 with Euroband and the song ‘This is my life’, in 2009 with Yohanna with ‘Is It True’ and in 2015 with Maria Olafsdottir and the song ‘Unbroken’. She also took part in the Danish Melodi Grand Prix in 2009 with ‘Someday’ and she participated previously in Söngvakeppnin in 2019 with the song ‘Moving On’. Iceland will compete during the second half of the first semi-final. Good luck Iceland!

Ladaniva for Armenia

The Armenian Broadcaster AMPTV has internally selected their representative for Malmo. The duo Ladaniva will represent the country with their song ‘Jako’.  Ladaniva are a French-Armenian world music duo consisted of the Armenian vocalist Jaklin Baghdasaryan and the French muti-instrumentalist Louis Thomas. They were formed in 2019 and gained popularity with their hit song ‘Vay Aman’. They are known for their unique blend of traditional Balkan melodies with sounds of jazz, reggae and other genres they explored during their travels around the globe. They released their self-title debut album in 2023 under the French label PIAS. The song ‘Jako’ was originally released as a track on their self-debut album on 29th of September 2023. The song refers to Jaklin’s childhood nickname and with the song she wants to give a message to herself and all the little girls around the world to embrace their truth selves. The duo will perform on the first half of the second semi-final. Good luck Armenia!

Nutsa for Georgia

Nutsa Buzaladze will represent Georgia in Eurovision 2024 with her song ‘Firefighter’. The song was released on 11th of March, having being internally selected by the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB). Nutsa was born in Tbilisi but has become an international singer, having lived in Los Angeles and Dubai. In 2019 she released her debut album ‘Nutsa22’. Her song ‘Gelodebi’ became a popular hit and led her touring around her country. She took part in many song contests over her career, including the American Idol in 2023 where she finished in the top 12. Her song ‘Firefighter’ is a dynamic ethnic entry with lots of powerful dance moves. She will compete in the second half of semi-final 2. Good luck Gerogia!

Fahree and Ilkin Dovlatov for Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has decided. Fahree featuring Ilkin Dovlatov will represent Azerbaijan with the song ‘Özünlə Apar’. The song was released on 15th of March and was internally selected by the Azerbaijani broadcaster Ictimai Television (ITV). The song is in English and Azerbaijani and it is the first Azerbaijani song entry that has more Azerbaijani lyrics than English.

Fahree was born in Baku in 1995. He studied law up to a post-graduate level. His passion for music was awaken during the Covid pandemic, when he realised what he really wanted to do in his life. He started his music career in 2022 and he has released 4 singles so far. Fahree will be joined on stage in May by the artist Ilkin Dovlatov. They will perform on the second half of semi-final 1.
