The countdown to Eurovision 2025 is on, and the competition is already heating up! The last weeks have been filled with artist announcements, song reveals and national selection shows.
In this article, we spotlight three standout artists—Luxembourg’s Laura Thorn, Spain’s Melody, and Austria’s JJ—who are set to capture Europe’s hearts. Let’s dive into their stories, their songs, and what makes them this year’s must-watch contenders!
Luxembourg:Laura Thorn
After an absolutely electrifying Luxembourg Song Contest (LSC), the Grand Duchy has chosen its Eurovision 2025 champion: Laura Thorn! With her catchy and retro-inspired track “La poupée monte le son” (meaning “The Doll Turns Up the Volume”), Laura captured hearts and secured her spot in Basel. Scoring an impressive 184 points, she wowed the jury (who placed her first) and came in a strong second with the public.
A passionate musician and music teacher at the Esch-sur-Alzette Conservatory of Music, Laura brings not only her vocal talent but also her deep love of music to the Eurovision stage.
Her song “La poupée monte le son” is a nostalgic yet modern twist on the iconic “Poupée de cire, poupée de son”, the country’s 1965 Eurovision-winning entry performed by France Gall—which also marked one of Luxembourg’s most legendary victories. Laura’s track is a playful nod to the past with a fresh, 21st-century vibe that’s sure to resonate with Eurovision fans across Europe.

Spain: Melody
The queen has arrived, and her name is Melody! After a spectacular victory at Benidorm Fest 2025, this iconic Spanish artist is heading to Basel with her fiery Latin pop anthem “Esa Diva” (=That Diva). Scoring 150 points and winning the audience’s hearts as their clear favorite, Melody is ready to shine on Europe’s biggest stage.
If you don’t know Melody, where have you been?! She’s been a household name in Spain since the age of 10, when her smash hit “El Baile Del Gorila” had the whole world dancing (and chart-topping in more than 15 countries!). With six albums under her belt and recent hits like “Bandido” and “Mujer Loba,” Melody has proven herself as a true diva in the Latin music world.
Her Eurovision entry “Esa Diva” is nothing short of spectacular—a self-penned anthem dripping with attitude, energy, and empowerment. But Melody didn’t create this masterpiece alone. She teamed up with some of Eurovision’s biggest songwriting legends: Joy Deb (the mastermind behind Måns Zelmerlöw’s 2015 winner “Heroes”), Peter Boström and Thomas G:Son (the duo behind “Euphoria” and “Tattoo”), as well as Spanish hitmakers Juan Sueiro and Alberto Lorite. That’s a dream team if we’ve ever seen one!

Austria: JJ
Austria has unveiled its 2025 representative, and it’s none other than the sensational JJ! The 23-year-old artist from Vienna is set to bring ”Wasted Love” to Basel this May, with the song scheduled for release in March. With a resume as impressive as his vocal range, JJ is ready to make Austria a standout contender this year.
JJ, whose real name is Johannes Pietsch, has been wowing audiences since 2021 when he made waves on the Austrian talent show ‘Starmania’ and later ‘The Voice UK’. Not only is he a rising star in the pop world, but he’s also a classically trained singer studying in Vienna. And here’s the kicker: he’s currently performing at the prestigious Vienna State Opera. Yes, you heard that right—expect operatic power, finesse, and drama from Austria’s entry this year!
The song Wasted Love was chosen through an intense internal selection process involving 30 music professionals, 30 OGAE Eurovision fan club members, and ORF’s Eurovision editorial team. That means Austria has put together the ultimate recipe for success, and we can’t wait to hear the result.
