New Artists (Portugal, Georgia)

And we made it to the last post of the New Artists series! Our last two countries to talk about are Portugal and Georgia. Let’s go!

Portugal: Napa – “Deslocado”
Portugal is bringing indie-rock to Basel with Napa, the winners of Festival da Canção 2025! Their song “Deslocado” (which translates to Displaced) secured 2nd place in the public vote and 4th with the jury, earning them the golden ticket to Eurovision.

Napa hails from Madeira and originally formed in 2013 under the name Men On The Couch. Their breakthrough came in 2019 with their debut album, but they really made waves after rebranding to Napa in 2023 with their second album. They’ve since toured across Portugal, building a strong fanbase. Drawing inspiration from Arctic Monkeys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Beatles, their music blends indie-rock energy with emotional depth.

Deslocado tells a deeply personal story about leaving home in search of a better future—a theme that resonates with many Portuguese emigrants. With its heartfelt lyrics and powerful indie sound, this could be a standout moment for Portugal!

Georgia: Mariam Shengelia – “Freedom”
Georgia is sending a voice full of power and passion: Mariam Shengelia! Selected internally by the Georgian Public Broadcaster, she beat out 18 other hopefuls to represent her country in Basel with the song “Freedom”.

At just 22 years old, Mariam has already made a name for herself in Georgia’s music scene. She was a semi-finalist on X-Factor Georgia and later finished 6th on Geostar, the competition that once selected Georgia’s Eurovision entrant. Fun fact: she was set to be a backing vocalist for Georgia’s cancelled 2020 entry, Take Me as I Am by Tornike Kipiani.

Freedom is a powerful anthem about hope, resilience, and a deep love for homeland. Expect soaring vocals and an emotional performance.

I hope you are not too emotional now that we reached the end of our new artists. But don’t worry- we have many more articles coming your way! What do you think of Class 2025? Let us know!

Spread the love
