We are officially cruising down the final road to Basel! In honour of what’s shaping up to be a very special contest, we’ve rounded up some fabulous (and possibly surprising) facts about this year’s edition. Whether you’re a seasoned Eurofan or a casual viewer, there’s something here to make you say, “No way!”
Let’s dive in!
- Switzerland was the country to host the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 in Lugano.
- Also Switzerland is the first ever country to win ESC with Lys Assia and the song “Refrain”.
- This year’s Poland’s Justina Steczkowska is making Eurovision history with the longest gap between appearances — 30 years! She first competed in 1995, and now she’s back in 2025.
- Germany’s entry ‘Baller’ by Abor & Tynna is the first song written entirely in German to represent the country since 2007.
- The UK’s entry Remember Monday is the first girl group to represent UK since 1999.
- Ireland’s representative Emmy is actually from Norway-and had never been to Ireland before winning the national selection.
- Latvia’s song ‘Bur man laimi’ is the first Eurovision entry sung in Latvian since 2004.
- San Marino’s Gabi Ponte is famous for being a member of the iconic group Eiffel 65, best known for the late 90’s banger “Blue (Da Ba Dee)”.
- This year marks the 10th anniversary of Australia in Eurovision! They started as a guest country and now they became a beloved part of the family.
- Luxembourg’s song “La poupée monte le son” is a modern tribute to the country’s 1965 Eurovision-winning hit “Poupée de cire, poupée de son.” Vintage vibes with a 2025 twist!
