Serbia in Eurovision

It’s Serbia’s Statehood day today and to celebrate it we wrote this article about Serbia’s participations in the contest. From Marija to Konstrakta, Serbia brought some special moments on the Eurovision stage. Let’s relive them!

As crazy as it sounds, Serbia has only 17 participations in the contest. That’s because they started competing as Serbia in 2007, when they won with Marija Šerifović and the song ‘Molitva’ (=Prayer). It was only the second country to win the contest with a debut entry, following Switzerland who won the very first competition back in 1956. Before, Serbia participated as part of Yugoslavia between 1961-1992, and then as Serbia and Montenegro between 2004-2006.

They hosted Eurovision back in 2008 in Belgrade. Even though they haven’t won since 2007, they are considered one of the most successful countries since they only failed to qualify to the final 3 times over the past 10 years (2009, 2013 and 2017). The best results Serbia achieved was in 2007 with Marija Šerifović and ‘Molitva’ (1st place), in 2012 with Željko Joksimović and ‘Nije Ljubav Stvar’ (3rd place) and in 2022 with Konstrakta and ‘In Corpore Sano’ (5th place).

Serbia will take part in Eurovision 2024 in Malmo, with the grand final of their national selection show Pesma za Evroviziju 24 happening on Saturday 2nd of March. We look forward to seeing who is going to represent Serbia this year!
