25 days to Eurovision!! Today we will talk about the Top 5 songs by odds- which are the 5 songs with the highest possibility of winning the contest according to bookmakers. That list is not necessarily accurate and isn’t representing people’s opinions. It is also changing every week according to pre-party performances or any news regarding the performance. But it gives an idea of the countries that stand a high chance of winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Let’s see the possible winners!
- Switzerland (Nemo- The Code)
Nemo has been slowing climbing up the odds, landing now at the top with a 24% chance of winning the contest. They will represent Switzerland with the song ‘The Code’. The Code is about Nemo’s experience of exploring their non-binary identity and with it they want to stand up for the entire LGBTQIA+ community. They sing ‘I broke the code’ as they finally discovered themselves and feel free. The Code is a combination of pop, rap, opera with a touch of rave. Will Nemo manage to give Switzerland a victory after 36 years?
2. Croatia (Baby Lasagna- Rim Tim Tagi Dim)
Baby Lasagna is chasing Nemo for the victory with a 18% winning chance. Baby Lasagna is the project name of Marko Purisic, who will represent Croatia with his song ‘Rim Tim Tagi Dim’. The song is about young Croatians having to leave their hometown/country for a better future. As he sings: ‘There’s no going back, my presence fades to black’. His mission is to entertain with his music while delivering a deeper message about different challenges that society faces. Rim Tim Tagi Dim combines heavy metal with pop and techno. Many are comparing Baby Lasagna with Kaarija, but will he made it to winning the contest?
3. Italy (Angelina Mango- La noia)
Angelina Mango is currently 3rd at the odds with 12% of winning chance. She will represent Italy with her song ‘La noia’, meaning boredom. The song was written by Mango and is inspired by the rhythms of cumbia, a folk dance traditional to Latin America. As she sings in Italian: ‘it is the cumbia of boredom’. With this song Angelina wants to deliver the message that ‘boredom is a reflection of time- it is mostly seen as a negative thing, but actually it is the time that you discover yourself’.
4. Netherlands (Joost Klein-Europapa)
Netherlands is also sky-rocketing to the top, currently being 4th with a winning chance of 9%. Europapa is an upbeat pop song, coming straight from the 90s-early 2000s. It is currently the most streamed Eurovision 2024 videoclip and song on YouTube and Spotify. Although an upbeat dance song, it has a darker meaning. It is the story of an orphan traveling to Europe. Joost wanted to tell his own story as he lost both his parents at a young age. By singing about his own life, he wants to help other people that went through similar situations and that you shouldn’t let darker times of the past define who you are, and those times make you complete and stronger.
5. Ukraine (Jerry Heil & Alyona Alyona- Teresa and Maria)
This is not an unusual place for Ukraine, since it finds itself at the top of the odds every year. Ukraine currently is 5th at the odds chart with an 8% winning chance. Ukraine will be represented by the duo Jerry Heil and Alyona Alyona with their song ‘Teresa and Maria’. It is a song about unity and the need to unite for ‘good deeds and important victories’. Unity symbolises Ukraine, and through the song and power of music they want to stand with their country and fight back against the enemy.
